For instance, although the serpent's teeth and tongue are described, I went for the head leaning forward and covering up that part.

Sea serpents are an interesting type of critter. I often find that the descriptions range from giant snake-like bodies to more draconian. Drawing them up allows for one to explore how they might be a combination of creatures. The lore with sea serpents/dragons is vast and varied; each culture has its own version and description.
